Gourmet Halloween Menu

We put together a wonderful Halloween menu for a client. It was a lot of fun; however, the client decided to delay the party until later in the year, which means: no Halloween party for the masses! Drats! Regardless, when searching the web for ideas, we didn’t come up with one great menu that we thought fit the bill of gourmet with yummy food. So we thought we would share the menu we developed with you. It is below. The description of the menu follows as well as the recipe source, if available.

Halloween Party Menu 2005

Green Goo Fondue with Lady Fingers Pretzels
Yummy Mummy
Witches Stew with Witches Hat Biscuits
Vanish Vampire Garlic Soup with Black Cat Toasts
Mini Chicken Pot Pies with Decorative Fall Cut-out Tops
Decomposed Salad
Devilish POTaTOES
Crunchy Green Beans or
Roasted Vegetable Parts
Drink and Dessert Ideas (see below)

Green Gooey Fondue is chocolate fondue dyed with green food coloring served w/fruit and ladies’ fingers & man toes pretzels. The recipe for the pretzel is from Martha Stewart and uses almond halves painted with red food dyed for nails.

Yummy Mummy A great idea from Rachael Ray on the Food Network. Recipe link.

Witches Stew is Beouf Bourguignon (I prefer Julie Child’s recipe) or your favorite beef stew served with biscuits (dyed your favorite colors) cut with a witch’s hat cutter floated in the soup and served in bowls over a chaser with dry ice and water. (idea from a chef friend. Thanks Dave!)

Vanish Vampire Garlic Soup with Pumpernickel Bread Toasts cut with a cat cutter. (Note: If you haven’t had garlic soup it is yummy, quite like French Onion, mild and flavorful.) Add a handful of spinach to it right before pureeing. It adds wonderful color and you don’t really detect it. We have a few recipes we like, if you don’t have one, send us a quick line.

Mini pot pies. Make your favorite recipe, cutting the filling (potatoes, chicken, carrot, etc.) in smaller pieces than usual (if you need a recipe for pot pie, email us). Use Pillsbury roll-up pie crusts or puff pastry or your favorite pie crust and roll out. Cut with a 2” cutter to line the bottom of a mini-muffin tin. Fill with filling, not too full. Cover w/cut top. Seal. Roll out remaining pie crust with varied Halloween inspired mini-cutters. Brush with beaten egg (or egg white) and bake until lightly browned. (idea from a chef friend…thanks Renee!)

Decomposed Salad. This is actually a salad bar set-up with a Halloween name. You can add fall ingredients to it, like roasted pumpkin seeds (or roasted pumpkin, for that matter).

Devilish POTaTOES – Parslied Potatoes with a dash of hot pepper flakes (heehee). You could dye the butter.

Crunchy Green Beans-Green Beans with Bacon. The best way to eat ‘um!

Roasted Vegetable Parts-Just what it says. It’s here because everyone likes roasted veggies (well, almost everyone).

Drink Ideas
Punch w/frozen eyes (olives), hands (surgical gloves filled with dyed water and frozen) & gummy worms. The punch can be served in a cauldron w/dry ice.
Bloody Mary’s
Pina Goulada’s w/blood-rimmed martini glasses (corn syrup dyed red)
Martini’s w/ice cube eye balls

Desserts Ideas: Clown or Mask cake. A great time for your favorite candy and cookies. Chocolate Truffles would be good. There are thousands of these recipes on the web. Go look for them and pick your favorites. You really don't need our ideas for Halloween desserts. If you do: please send your email address in your comments and we'll get back to you.

Please have fun, eat well and let us know if you try any of these. Your feedback is always appreciated!

    Dear Pookah & Di,

One of the article groups on my site is recipes ... while searching for details on mojito recipes, I came across your Gourmet Halloween Menu blog.

It is widely accepted that a lot of the best articles on the internet is created by individuals who blog ... good quality content without the bias and waffle often found elsewhere.

Judging by your blog title and content I believe you are interested in mojito recipes, and will therefore find our recipes category to be of interest. I am frequently looking for individuals to submit articles on their pet subjects and help me to build the directory to everyone's benefit. As a contributor, you get the recognition of having your article published and seen by thousands of web users. The pride and satisfaction of seeing your article published in a prestige directory is hard to beat.

Few of us are gifted with the ability to write to professional standards of grammatical correctness ... as a result, many bloggers don't bother to have their articles published.

I accept articles written in an informal style that matches your personality and fits in with your article content. I also welcome articles that are uniquely based on your personal knowledge, experiences and opinions. All I ask is that your articles do not contain vulgar language, incite hatred or generally offensive.

There are no costs involved ... please come over and have a look at my blog articles directory for yourself.

    Kind Wishes
    Jane
